A Sheffield Jazz debut for Erik Palmberg’s group who’ve attracted glowing international reviews and captivated audiences well beyond jazz circles, playing evocative and cinematic jazz which is full of captivating melodies and harmony. Erik has an expressive, lyrical sound, embracing his Nordic roots while remaining firmly in the jazz tradition. His music is poetic, emotional and played with deep seated lyricism while his compositions are imaginative and quietly reflective, but allow him to push boundaries. With a reputation for connecting with audiences through heartfelt performance and storytelling, the group promises a memorable experience for jazz fans and newcomers alike.
“The quartet shifts effortlessly between dynamic, creative interplay and powerful solo moments. There’s a contagious generosity among the musicians that makes their contemporary, personal jazz a joy to experience.” – Lira Musikmagasin
“The quartet goes where the music takes them with elite improvisational skills. ..A triumph of jazz expressionism” – All About Jazz
Based in Stockholm, educated at the Royal College of Music and Jazz-Institut-Berlin, Erik Palmberg has been playing regularly with his group since the release of their first album ‘First Lines’ (2018). His playing and compositions blur the lines between the intricate lines of the bebop language alongside the more expansive European and Nordic jazz sound. With their second album, ‘In Between’, which gained acclaim from critics and won the reader’s poll for the prestigious Gyllene Skivan award, Erik has gained wider recognition both in Sweden and internationally.
“…having absorbed a little from influences including Miles and Freddie Hubbard among others, he is now emerging as a confident and mature soloist playing with his own distinctive voice” – jazzviews.net
