Tori Freestone and Alcyona Mick, both in demand musicians, formed their duo in 2015. Ivor Novello award winning composer Tori is also a highly regarded bandleader while Alcyona, a recent nominee for the Parliamentary Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year award, has worked at the forefront of the London scene and worldwide. Their debut album ‘Criss Cross’ received wide critical acclaim and the much-anticipated follow up ‘Make One little room an Everywhere’ was released in 2023 to rave reviews. Their music has a spontaneous, interactive approach reflecting their shared musical influences from jazz, folk, Brazilian music, classical, free improvisation and more.
Tori Freestone is known for her robust tenor sound, melodic invention as well as an ability to amalgamate into a variety of styles and musical contexts while maintaining her highly personal and distinct voice. She has performed with the likes of renowned Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal, Iain Ballamy, Stan Sulzman, Jasper Hoiby, Jami Cullum, Andy Sheppard and Jason Yarde. Alcyona Mick is a member of London Jazz Orchestra, Josephine Davies Enso Ensemble, Henry Lowther’s Still Waters and Ingrid & Christine Jensen’s Whirlwind big band. She has worked with Anglo/Egyptian artist Natacha Atlas for many years, performing worldwide and has played with a wide array of musicians including Yazz Ahmed, Nikki Iles, Jerry Dammers Spatial aka Orchestra and Zoe Rahman. Dave Whitford is a graduate from Middlesex University’s Jazz course the Guildhall School of Music’s Jazz postgraduate diploma course. He has also toured extensively nationally and internationally working, amongst others Steve Lacy, Bill Frisell, Dave Liebman, Mike Gibbs, Evan Parker, Kirk Lightsey, Jason Rebello and Josephine Davies’ Satori trio.
Jay Davis is an award-winning drummer and composer. A proud recipient of the Yamaha Jazz Scholar Prize, Jay studied with drummers Dave Walsh, Jeff Williams and Martin France at Leeds College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He Jay plays in several band including Alex Hitchcock’s as well as leading his own band Badtrad and contributing as co-leader to Big Bad Wolf.
