Internationally acclaimed saxophonist Tommy Smith and Gwilym Simcock, renowned as one of the most gifted pianists on the European scene, come together for an acoustic night of intensely musical duets and dazzling improvisation. Both are multi-award winners who have played with the cream of international jazz artists, including Gary Burton, John Scofield and Pat Metheny. This is a meeting of two highly creative musicians, communicating with energy and lyrical fluency through a repertoire drawn from many musical genres. Expect an evening of intimate musical brilliance as they bring two generations of UK jazz mastery to the stage in world-class performances.

Tommy Smith OBE is one of the world’s leading saxophonists. A presence on the global jazz scene since his teenage years, when he toured internationally with vibes virtuoso Gary Burton’s Whiz Kids quintet, he has gone on to record with the definitive jazz label, Blue Note and work with myriad jazz greats, including Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius, Cleo Laine, John Scofield, Randy Brecker, Jack DeJohnette, Arild Andersen, Dizzy Gillespie and Trilok Gurtu. Since leaving Berklee College of Music, an experience that shaped his affirmative approach to jazz, he has recorded over thirty solo albums for Blue Note, Linn, ECM and his own Spartacus Record label.  https://tommysmith.scot/

Gwilym Simcock is one of the most imaginative pianist-composers of his generation. Although principally a jazz artist, Gwilym has composed works for classical ensemble that combine through-composed elements with improvisation. He was the first BBC New Generation Artist from a Jazz background and his album ‘Good Days at Schloss Elmau’ was an album of the year in 2011. Gwilym has toured with many leading British and international jazz artists including Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz and Bobby McFerrin. He co-leads the Anglo-American supergroup ‘The Impossible Gentlemen’, has toured with classical virtuoso Nigel Kennedy and for five years with US guitar legend Pat Metheny, Antonio Sanchez and Linda May Han Oh.  https://gwilymsimcock.com/
