Robert Mitchell is one of the most significant voices in British jazz – a pianist, keyboardist, composer, improviser, writer, poet and much more – as Gilles Peterson put it, “a very important, influential musician”. Robert is constantly pushing the envelope, blending art forms and musical genres. True Think is a multi-generational, multi-cultural reflection of his journey backed by a quartet of incredible musicians. Performing music from their new double album ‘Hold The Light/The New Resistance’, True Think blend electronic, jazz, RnB, spoken word, film and folk influences together to create a unique sound punctuated by epic, euphoric improvisation.

Over some 30 years Robert Mitchell has recorded ten albums of his own projects and participated in many as a sideman. He leads the bands Epiphany 3 and Panacea. He was MD on the successful BBC4 television programme ‘Jazz 625 Live: For One Night Only’ which won the British Broadcasting Award. He has performed and recorded with an incredible list of musicians including Billy Harper, Greg Osby, Courtney Pine, Alicia Olatuja, Orphy Robinson, Steve Coleman, Omar Puente, Ernesto Simpson, Jason Rebello, Basement Jaxx, Dub Colossus, Joshua Redman and Jacqui Dankworth. Robert’s works have been performed by the Grammy-winning Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and the London Sinfonietta, amongst others.

“One of the most outstanding pianists performing in the UK today” – Jazz Steps

“a truly original virtuoso” – Mike Gates, UK Vibe

Liselotte Östblom is an ambidextrous Swedish artist based in London. Through her output as a producer, songwriter, virtuosic vocalist and fearless improviser, Liselotte blurs lines between genres, creating a soulful immersion with prominent influences from jazz, alternative RnB, and hip-hop. Following the release of her self-produced debut EP, ‘A Paintbrush Unfold’, she frequently collaborates with musicians and producers from Sweden, the UK and US, while her brand-new electronic solo-project LIS released a single in early 2022.

Tom Mason studied jazz bass at the Royal Academy of Music and at New England Conservatory in Boston. He has gone on to work extensively as a double bassist and bass guitarist known for his adeptness in crossing genres. Tom has been working with Robert Mitchell and performing his works since 2002. Over the years, he has also recorded and performed with artists including Questlove, Lizz Wright, Goldie, Mark Ronson, Ghostpoet, Jamie Cullum, Lily Allen, Angelique Kidjo, Gwilym Simcock, Jonathan Jeremiah, and The Heritage Orchestra.

Saleem Raman is a versatile drummer who has played internationally with a range of artists across the globe. He currently also plays with jazz/soul vocalist Polly Gibbons, Parisian jazz/tango artist Gabrielle Ducomble, afrobeat/dub outfit The Fontanelles, urban psychedelic trio Sen3 and UK conscientious rapper LowKey whilst regularly performing in the house band at Ronnie Scott’s. He has recorded, performed or toured with Layla Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Martin Taylor, Lilly Allen, Nick Mulvey, Duncan James, Julia Biel and more.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, composer and guitarist extraordinaire Zayn Mohammed recorded his first album at the age of 12 before attending and graduating from Berklee College of Music. Zayn has been mentored by Ahmad Jamal and studied with Wayne Shorter, Joe Lovano and John Patitucci. He has performed across the USA opening for artists including Stanley Clarke, Chick Corea and Pat Martino and has collaborated with award-winning oud player Simon Shaheen and producer Nitin Sawhney. Zayn plays a variety of musical styles: flamenco, Indian classical and Turkish classical.
