An exciting prospect as Australian-born pianist and composer Meg Morley, now based in London, makes her Sheffield Jazz debut with her trio. Meg is a versatile musician who, since relocating to London, has worked with many top international dance companies and a silent film organisation, alongside developing her reputation as a jazz performer and composer. Her playing style is melodic with a keen sense of dynamics and her compositions embrace a variety of jazz styles, often displaying a cinematic quality. Her acclaimed debut recording of solo piano pieces was followed by two trio recordings which attracted numerous four-star reviews.

Meg Morley studied classical music and jazz improvisation and in 2010 she re-located to London and secured a post as pianist with the English National Ballet School. As a composer for dance Meg has collaborated with choreographers and international dance companies including, Matthew Bourne, Pina Bausch, English National Ballet and Ballet Rambert. She has performed with leading musicians from other genres, including jazz vocalist Tina May. She was deemed an Exceptional Talent by Arts Council England in 2018 and her debut recording: the solo piano EP ‘Through the Hours’ was praised by many including renowned jazz pianist Kit Downes. “ Morley has produced two impressive recordings …making this group one of the most exciting on the current UK scene” – All About Jazz

“Strong melodies and clever rhythmic ideas are enhanced by the quality and vitality of the playing of a highly interactive trio. Morley’s is a talent that is well worthy of greater recognition” – The Jazz Mann

“A beautiful collection of solo piano pieces – each one starting down a path that you think you know the end of, but then twisting into new and unexpected areas. Subtle voicings and elegant turns of phrase make this EP a really absorbing listen” – Kit Downes, review of ‘Through The Hours’
