BBC Jazz Award winning saxophonist Julian Siegel brings his Jazz Orchestra to Sheffield to celebrate the acclaimed album ‘Tales of The Jacquard’. The Orchestra features some of Julian’s favourite musicians and is a rare opportunity to see this hand-picked, stellar line-up playing Julian’s compositions – from expansions and arrangements of music written for small band to a suite commissioned by Derby Jazz composed especially for the band. ‘Tales from the Jacquard’ draws inspiration from the Jacquard cards which controlled the knitting machines used in the lace-making process (Julian’s family ran a lace manufacturing business in Nottingham for over 50 years).

Julian Siegel is an in-demand saxophonist and bass clarinettist on the UK and European Jazz scene who always plays from the heart and is a gifted composer. He has worked with many of the top figures in the music. In 2007, he was awarded the BBC Jazz Award for Best Instrumentalist. He is currently touring with the Julian Siegel Quartet, featuring long term associates pianist Liam Noble, bassist Oli Hayhurst and drummer Gene Calderazzo. The Quartet has released two critically acclaimed albums, ‘Urban Theme Park’ and ‘Vista’.  As a sideman Julian has played in large ensembles led by Kenny Wheeler, Andrew Hill, Hermeto Pascoal, Michael Gibbs, Django Bates, John Taylor, Nikki Iles, Stan Sulzmann, NDR Big Band, Colin Towns and Jason Yarde to name a few. Inspired by these great experiences and coupled with a long standing wish to write for larger ensemble, Julian formed the Julian Siegel Jazz Orchestra embarking on its debut UK tour in March 2017. Julian gratefully acknowledges the support of Arts Council England in making this tour possible.  www.juliansiegel.com

The ‘Tales From The Jacquard’ album was in JAZZWISE ★★★★ Top 20 albums of 2021 – one of only five UK albums to make this list – and in thebluemoment.com (Richard Williams’ world-wide, all-music list/blog), one of the top 25 albums of 2021.
