Jason Rebello is one of the most inventive pianists to emerge from the UK since he burst on to the scene in the early 90’s. Jason has often worked with electronic keyboards in his own groups (as well as with Sting and Jeff Beck), but in 2016 he decided it was time to return to the instrument he loves and released his debut solo piano album “Held” which was rated Best Album in the 2016 British Jazz Awards. His trio gig at the Crucible Studio was one of the highlights of our 2017 programme and we couldn’t wait to bring him back with another brilliant trio.

Jason Rebello was classically trained but, inspired by Herbie Hancock, he first came to the attention of Wayne Shorter in the early 1990s and was signed to BMG records on a three-album deal, becoming one of the leaders of the jazz resurgence of that period. He produced a further two albums by the end of the decade and toured internationally with his own band before being invited by Sting to record and tour, with whom he played for six years. For another six years he partnered Jeff Beck, with whom he co-wrote the Grammy winning single ‘Hammerhead’. Jason’s musicianship and adaptability have enabled him to work with artists across the musical spectrum such as Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Pee Wee Ellis, Joss Stone, Madeline Peyroux, Manu Katche Chaka Khan, Mica Paris and Carleen Anderson. In 2016 Jason released a solo piano album, ‘Held’ (Edition Records) to critical acclaim. It won the best jazz album of 2016 in the British Jazz Awards.

“In terms of sheer ability and potential, Jason is probably the finest young jazz musician this country has produced…” – Stuart Nicholson, Jazz: The Modern Resurgence

“Rebello has produced something quite remarkable here with his first solo piano recording, an album of delightful and mesmerising contrasts” – 4* review of ‘Held’ Roger Farbey, All About Jazz.

Yuri Goloubev was principal bassist with the Bolshoi Opera, then with the world-famous Moscow Soloists and was the youngest bass player to be awarded Honoured Artist of Russia. In 2004, he decided to move to Milan and dedicate himself entirely to his jazz career. One of the most interesting and sought after jazz double bassists in Europe, Yuri has toured nearly 60 countries across continents and has participated as leader, co-leader or sideman in well over 100 albums to date. In addition to working with Jason his collaborations include Bob James, Ralph Towner, Julian Arguelles, Norma Winstone, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Pieranunzi, Pablo Held and Tim Garland.  www.yurigoloubev.com

“Yuri’s voice is so distinctive; what he does with his instrument is a unique thing.” – Gwilym Simcock

One of the most respected drummers of his generation Jeremy Stacey is equally at home playing pop, rock, funk or straight ahead jazz. His early works included the 1990s band The Lemon Trees and Jeremy has since worked with the likes of Tom Jones, The Finn Brothers, King Crimson, Iain Bellamy and Claire Martin. He was the regular drummer with Sheryl Crow for over 7 years and toured the world with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.

“…a fine drummer with an infectious feel” – Time Out
