London-based Polish guitarist and composer Jakub Klimiuk brings his quintet to Sheffield Jazz with a new set of material, a follow-up to the critically acclaimed album ‘(un)balanced’. The band has appeared regularly at major UK jazz venues including Pizza Express Soho, Vortex Jazz and The Verdict and collaborated with leading artists such as saxophonist Mark Lockheart. They have also toured widely across Europe, performing in cultural hubs like Berlin and Brussels. Expect a thrilling combination of scripted forms and improvised sections, interweaving melodic compositions with adventurous sonic explorations, “music which could engage and transcend genre boundaries,” according to UK Jazz News.
”The future of jazz is in safe hands” – UK Jazz News
Jakub Klimiuk spent his formative years in Gdańsk cutting his teeth as a side-man working with prominent Polish musicians before moving to the UK to pursue his career as a bandleader. He made his first appearance on the British jazz scene at the EFG London Jazz Festival, performing music from his quintet’s EP ‘Reluctance’, which established him as a fixture in the London jazz community. Jakub is an adventurous composer focused on experimenting with musical forms and implementing compositional techniques derived from contemporary classical music into jazz. His original compositions are a unique combination of arranged structures, often based on counterpoint and fully improvised sections. https://www.jakubklimiuk.com/
