Dinosaur is one of the most vibrant and creative new ensembles in Europe today and has been nominated for the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize. Led by BBC New Generation Artist 2015 – 2017, trumpeter and composer Laura Jurd, the band features star keyboardist Elliot Galvin and the exciting young rhythm section of Conor Chaplin and Corrie Dick, and has been described by All About Jazz as ‘a new British Jazz supergroup’.
In Sept 2016, Dinosaur released ‘Together, As One’ on Edition Records to widespread critical acclaim including a rare 5 star review from The Guardian, characterising the music, written by Laura Jurd, as ‘impressionistic electric-jazz moodiness seamlessly wrapped around Celtic folk melodies’ whilst All About Jazz, described the album ‘as one of the best debut albums for years’.
In Oct 2016, the quartet appeared on the front cover of Jazzwise Magazine in Oct 2016 prompting a wave of praise and acclaim from the international media including Jazzthing Magazine, Jazzthetic and Gilles Peterson. Bringing together a remarkable fusion of thoughtful compositions, skilful musicianship and visceral energy, this music is both formidable and utterly compelling.
With almost six years of touring including performances at the Berlin Jazz Festival, Jazz Sur Son 31 in Toulouse, 12 Points in Dublin and Jazzahead in Bremen, Dinosaur are set to ignite a glowing international career with tours in the UK, Ireland, Germany, France and Belgium in 2017.
