Dave O’Higgins sax; Geoff Gascoyne: bass; Graham Harvey: piano; Sebastian de Krom drums

Saxophonist Dave O’Higgins evokes an impassioned sound somewhere between Dexter Gordon and John Coltrane. He is one of the most prolific contemporary jazz musicians in the UK, with 19 albums released as leader since 1993. This quartet plays some of the most swinging music you will hear today. Straight-ahead jazz firmly in the harmonic and melodic tradition, played by some of the finest UK-based jazz musicians. They will be playing a mixture of new originals and standards from the latest recording, “It’s Always 9.30 in Zog”.

Having studied music at The City University in London, Dave’s first big breaks were with John Dankworth and Cleo Laine, and Icelandic jazz-funk band, Mezzoforte. As well as the solo projects, Dave is a busy guest soloist across the globe, runs a small jazz recording studio, and teaches at the London College of Creative Media.

Some of the artists Dave has worked with: Roadside Picnic, Jason Rebello (produced by Wayne Shorter), Joey Calderazzo, Joe Locke, Dave Kikoski, Eddie Gomez, Adam Nussbaum, John Dankworth, Cleo Laine, Frank Sinatra, Chico Chagas, Jimmy Smith, Ray Charles, Martin Taylor, Jim Mullen, Kyle Eastwood, Jamie Cullum, Itchy Fingers, Stan Tracey, BBC Big Band, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, Eric Alexander, Phil Dwyer, Grant Stewart, Brubecks Play Brubeck, Darius Brubeck Quartet.

“O’Higgins plays with quite exceptional fluency and his fund of ideas never runs out.”…THE OBSERVER

“A stunning player in the neo-bop vein, with an apparently effortless flow of coherent ideas, beautiful time and a highly developed harmonic sense.”…JAZZ GUIDE

“His professional presentation was an object lesson to the amateurishness of local players.  His musicianship seemed boundless.  Like his friend Martin Taylor did last year to our guitarists, Dave O’Higgins did to our sax players – gave them new and exciting challenges.  And gave us mere listeners an exceptional night.”…ADELAIDE ADVERTISER, AUSTRALIA

Appearing with Dave, are:

Geoff Gascoyne on bass: one of the UK’s most in demand bass player/composer/arranger/producer/ educators. Dutch drummer, Sebastiaan de Krom: studied at Berklee School of Music and lives between London and Belgium. He was with Jamie Cullum at the same time as Geoff and there they struck a terrific rapport. He tours with Ray Gelato and is one of the most in-demand jazz drummers in Europe.
